When in doubt , head to Italy !

Italy is my favorite country in the world.  New York is where I wanted to live as a child , Italy (  Regions of Tuscany or Umbria ) are where I would love to retire.

Day 1 in Milan. We checked in at the Bulgari. A true test of a hotel is what they do when they are in trouble. With that internet down , printers not working the hotel was in trouble. But with a smiling face and no stress visible they handed it like complete pros.

We had the 4 th floor room , garden view. Very nice.

Candy and a tamarind drink at the lobby.

Drinks at the ever popular bar with outdoor seating. Felt like an oasis in a busy city. Loved it.

We did lunch at convivum restaurant. It overlooks this piazza.  Everything is gorgeous here.

We dined at the 2 Michelin star restaurant , Seta. We really enjoyed our meal. The lamb was one of the best I have ever eaten. ( At the Mandarin Oriental )

Day 1 – a success !! We also went to the gym – so that was great. Could slightly justify the over eating.

10 year wedding anniversary celebrations- NYC

Hello all,
Last post of 2012!
It was our 10 year wedding anniversary on the 28 th. Since we just had our 2 nd baby 6 weeks ago , a vacation was not possible.
I decided to plan a ” Stay-cation” , a term my friend D introduced me to!
With my mom in law here to watch the kids , we managed a 3 pm check in.
Now, being peak season at MO , I was expecting a standard room , as that’s what I paid for. But in this business , it’s REALLY about who you know! Thank you S.D. Rooms, service were all top notch. It was very festive and their NEw Year Eve Gala is very popular.

Room 4730. Park and water views. It was gorgeous. A super home, away from home!!

We popped a 10 y bottle of Bollinger champagne , also a decade old. It was yummy !!
We had a drink at the bar, before heading to Marea.

Now, we have been to Marea before , hubby more times than me. Their bone marrow pasta is just divine.

The meal was good. We ordered the 6 course tasting. Found the service snobby and the sommelier wasn’t friendly per say. Still waiting for the tasting list he’s to send us.
It’s a great place if you are into seafood.
Here are pics from the dinner.

We had a great evening – but comparing the service at Atera vs. Marea, I just wasn’t impressed.

Overall , I would say to try it for sure!

Brooklyn Fare in Feb, and I just can’t wait for that meal. Pics when we go there.

Here’s to many many more decades with the man who gets me and makes me so happy. ( Granted , gets me annoyed too!- I love you. ).

3 nights in Paris, 5 nights in Perros-Gueric, Brittany

We headed to France, August 9th , to meet up with our parents. ( both sets).

We flew XL airlines, it was decent, good food and service, no personal entertainment. Since the flight departure was 11.50 pm ( delayed to 3 am), we pretty much slept on the plane anyway.

First stop was the Mandarin Oriental. I decided to stay here 1 night, as I do sell the hotel a lot, so it was good to check it out and experience it. After doing a site inspection of it last year, it was totally wonderful to have a night stay here. Great location – on Rue St.-Honore, next to hotel Costes , Place Vendome , Tuilleries. ūüôā

We had an absolutely huge room- super spacious and loved it totally- if you are in Paris and looking for something contemporary , clean lines and chic- the Mandarin is IT!

If you didn’t read the post about the inspection, here is it¬†http://wp.me/p1PB4X-2C

We spent our first evening walking around, just enjoying the sights and sounds of Paris. Dinner was on the busy Rue du Bac street.

Our next 2 nights were at Hotel Montalembert. The only 5 star property on the left bank. A wonderful location and very affordable. Highly recommend it!
It’s a simple hotel- hot the Mandarin/ Bristol/ Ritz category , but a wonderful option. Friendly staff, simple rooms.
After 3 nights here, we took the train to Brittany, got cars and checked into Hotel L’Agapa. ¬†A small leading hotel of the world and the only 5 star in this area. A beautiful property with a Nuxe Spa.

Paris: Day 5

Day 5-Wed Oct 12th

We checked into Hotel Maurice http://www.lemeurice.com/ , another Palace hotel and we were going to stay here 2 nights, just to get a break from the moving around!  It was purchased by the Dorchester group in 1998.

Very grand hotel, with modern touches, the interiors are by Philippe Starck. There are 160 rooms on 7 floors, 45 suites and Jr. suites. They also have presidential suites, Prestige suite, Marco Polo Suite and the Belle Etoile Suite which has a private terrace and panoramic views.

Restaurant le Meurice is their¬† three Michelin-starred restaurant that serves Haute French cuisine in a grand dining room, originally inspired by the Salon de la Paix at the Ch√Ęteau de Versailles.

Bar 228, old world in feel, is very popular for drinks as well. Dali was a regular at this hotel and spent 30 years here!

Next inspection, was of the Mandarin Oriental. http://www.mandarinoriental.com/

Its right next to the Costes hotel, on Rue St.-Honare. It used to be an office building that was made into a hotel. Just the outside walls were kept, it was all renovated from the inside, totally!

When you enter you are totally transported to a far away place; it feels nothing like any of the other Parisian hotels, thought it had a modern and cool feel, it felt contemporary French. The outdoor garden is the heart of the hotel and you feel that , as the lobby, bar and the restaurant all open out or look onto it.

138 guest rooms, 39 suites , some of them mind blowing duplex’s¬†were awe-inspiring and refreshing to what else is out there!

The award winning chef Thierry Marx’s restaurant that seats¬†40 per night ” Sur Mesure by Thierry Marx” is a culinary experience, experts say its not to be missed. If you are a guest at the hotel, you MAY be able to get a table, otherwise do book ahead. It feels like a space ship.Check out the red and pink bathroom.

The bar at the hotel, Bar 8 , glimmers with Lalique crystals on the walls and murano fixtures. My favourite part about the bar is being able to sit outside, and enjoy your drinks, in the outdoor garden.

All rooms are sound proofed, and come with 2 sinks in the bathroom. The rooms are spacious and modern. They come with all the adapters and cables you would need, saves you the hassle of packing all those things.  It is a green hotel, it has the French equivalent certification of a LEEDS hotel i.e HQE. Some of the suites over look the garden and can come with terraces.

This was another suite, it was a duple- totally fantastic.

The duplex suite was amazing, but what totally blew my mind was the Royal Mandarin Suite with a private dining room, terraces, and views. This is for 20000 euros/ night. Any takers?

The Spa at the Mandarin. ( It has a pool too).

We tried the 114 Le Faubourg restaurant at Hotel Le Bristol for lunch. It was a fantastic meals- the pictures do show the same hopefully! ūüôā it was absolutely packed by 1 pm, there was not a single table available.

Dinner tonight, was at Frenchie.¬†http://www.frenchie-restaurant.com/¬†One of the hardest to get tables in town.. don’t ask me how I got it ! ūüôā Le Bristol Concierge is VERY connected¬†– I had asked 2 hotels to make the same reservations, gave a wide range of dates- but only 1 succeeded…

Menu was easy to choose from- all in 2’s- 2 appetizer choices, 2 entrees to¬†pick between and ¬†2 desserts choices.

People kept coming into the restaurant , checking to see if there were any last-minute cancellations, or if they could somehow get in ! The bar across , has their own menu that serves food too- put your name on the list hanging outside the bar.

There was a nice gentleman, who decided to come to the restaurant to use the bathroom, then he somehow made it to the chef’s window¬† and after that he was eating right there, bu the kitchen window, along with a glass of wine.. standing of course!! it was funny.

Another great evening! Bon nuit!
